Always a great and solid read.

I have been waiting patiently for SH to put out a book, and I certainly wasn't dissapointed. This woman can write! She writes an all-around kick-ass story: solid writing skills, great character development, extremely well done SF techno, and beautiful love/smex. I can't even begin to describe how much of a solid author she is, and with so many Indie Authors out there just slapping any old thing on the internet for sale now a days this woman is worth her weight in gold. 'Love, Encoded' is a very interesting start to a new series she has written.

My only negative comment? Well, it really isn't a negative comment, more of a whine: I was looking forward to another book from the 'Alien Mine' series, and especially about Sargent Kuluk (? - not the H half-brother as it seemed like the next book would be about). Ah well. I will be grateful to read anything by SH.

Awesome job, and than you for all your hard work and talent! Oh, and please write for my sexy Sargent soon.....

something was missing

I was excited to see another book by this author as I have re-read Alien Mine so many times and still call it a favorite. I struggled with this book. I felt like I was missing something from the very beginning and even deleted and reloaded to make sure it wasn't a technical error. I kept reading it hoping for something to make the book more memorable but there was nothing. I still love this author and look forward to more of her work, I'll even read the next book in the series but this particular story will probably stay archived.

This book was written by my Great Grandfather Dr. Wm Wesley Cook. It is still in print and still used to teach hypnotism. I remember my Mother and Grandmother telling stories about "Papa" and how he could stop you in your tracks and make you do something. I was in awe. I never met him but feel his influences in my life because of who and how he was.

Accessible, Intelligent, Simple, and Useful- A Great Find

As a new Language Arts teacher, I am always looking for something that is relevant without being tedious or cumbersome. This workbook does just that. It is accessible, interesting, and covers the basics without worrying about nonsensical terminology that students will never actually use. The ideas presented are clear and concise in a way that it could easily be integrated into any academic unit as a way to teach, or even remind, students how to properly use the English language in a way that makes them sound intelligent without drowning them in rules and boring fluff. This is the kind of book that I look forward to using in my classroom simply because it's unlike any other I've yet come across. The grammar workbooks from my high school days weighed about 30 pounds, had about 500 pages, and seemed entirely foreign to me. This, however, gives students bite-size pieces that can easily be ingested and put into practice. What more could a teacher ask for?

A Good Reminder

I got this because I am On the Pathways BYU Idaho Online Program. And It is not required to have a book but since it had the option. So I figured why not get it. Totally worth it. I could always use a reminder on the basics. And I can do all I can with it while I Study. It's Smaller/ thiner than I expected, But IT has all the basics anyone needs to remember from language/reading.

Most people who need a grammar refresher have been inundated with stacks of data that buries their meager hopes for ever learning grammar. This workbook is to the point, and then with the exercises after the lessons, it is an ideal text for refresher grammar. What I love about this book is that it is doable, yet it covers all of the basics. Nicely done.

A necessary book for the MDE discipline ...

I rated this book with 5 stars because it is a book that fills a gap between the theory and practice in MDE. The book integrates the differents areas of MDE in one place and put them in a good perspective with a conceptual and integrated view. Because this knowledge area is new, is not common to find a book which explains all the implicated aspects. Brambilla, Cabot and Wimmer did it, excelent decision. The book includes an example of conceptual modeling showing the diferents techniques, tools and practices (based on Eclipse tools) that results very illustrative.

weekend review

Good introduction and catch up to the MDSE scene having seen early incarnations 5-8 years ago. Allowed me to formalize and correct some ideas I had in my head. Definitely worth a read if your looking at this area even if it's just to understand the negative feedback it gets from non believers and to look at the actual complexity of the problem it's trying to solve. Thought it was a little biased to EMF, but maybe I need a second read.

The good mix of theory and practice

Brambilla, Cabot and Wimmer wrote an excellent book. I think that the book is a good contribution for Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) because the authors include a lot of MDE concepts with illustrative examples (modeling, transformation models, ). The book systematically explains the basic concepts of MDE, transformations and DSML (foundations and relationships) . The book allowed me to organize my ideas about MDE and MDSE because I think that the book is well organized.

‘There is a knock on the door; it has been heard before. The man has come for the rent; he wants it now…On the mantelpiece, the tin is empty’. This absorbing book is about how capitalism has veered off course, how the claims made in its name is driving it to an end that is contrary to its initial promise. The author is Guy Standing (but his name seemsto have been omitted in Amazon's notice).

How have the great capitalist societies come to create the most ‘unfree market system ever’? Standing points out that monopoly, patents, and copyright rules provide guaranteed incomes to the minority few for decades.

The rentier society is borne of neo-liberalism, and the obsession to be competitive. Nations now seek to be competitive when the old political economy ran on ‘comparative advantages’. Nations now seek to be the best at the same things. Something has to give. That something began with the loss of the commons. A rentier is the one in society who has the assets. The rest are the labour.

The prevailing view – who came up with this idea in the first place – is that economic growth is in the hands of rentiers. Hence governments keep handing out subsidies to them and not the rest. That, in the author’s view, results in the growing inequality. Students who need a university degree are part of the growing number of debtors because tertiary education has become very expensive. Yet 59% of graduates in 2014 held jobs that do not require a degree. That means that most of them would be paid lower than their qualifications deserve.

The ‘plague of subsidies’, the ‘scourge of debts’, and the ‘plunder of the commons’, lead to the ‘corruption of democracy’ (titles of the chapters in this book). The corruption of democracy is marked by a change in politics and that, in turn, is marked by the transformation of political parties. That is exemplified when Labour Business Secretary Peter Mendelson exclaims, ‘We are intensely relaxed about people getting filthy rich’.

And so, as a result, people revolt. How? Standing discusses the mass demonstrations – the largest and the most in any era – and conclude that nothing much has changed so far. More has to be done. There is a lot of energy out there he says, and people have nothing but derision for the plutocracy. Standing makes a few positive observations. First we must try and make work pay; we have to reverse the trend of expanding protection for intellectual property; build democratic sovereign funds; and to give more money to the people, that, is, a sort of ‘QE for the people’.

It is not likely that anyone has answers but the importance of this book is that it is raising some serious questions, and even those it criticises (the rentiers) cannot brush all the questions aside. ‘They cannot call it a class war until we fight back’. Rentiers cannot afford a fight-back from labour.

Wonderful Sounding Recipes I'll start up the oven soon

I really like it. It's not a large book and has a soft binding so that it's easy to put in your purse and take with you. Because of the location of Canada they probably bake more during their extended cold weather. There's lots of hints and really educational things that I've never heard of and I worked in the school cafeteria (cook) for a couple of years way back when they didn't use fast food. I learned there the accuracy of weighing ingredients. A few of the recipes are weighed or some are a mixture of both weight and measure. These people offer lots of what I call 'pearls' when you're wanting a really good recipe. Five Roses is the brand of flour. I learned about 20 years ago (I'm now almost 70) that you need to use the type flour for the type of baking you're doing. This is also something fun to look into. I have yet to try any of the recipes but I'm going to order some of the flour tho it's a little pricey and give it a try. It's still a little hot here in OK. If you like to cook or should I say bake I think you would like this cook book.

I really wanted the french version of this book as my mother owned it for years. But I am just as happy to have an english version of this book. Bought a the same version for my mom since she lost her original french version. I remember the pancakes she made from this book. They are a treasured memory for me and my family

About the Author
In addition to conducting the research that culminated in his acclaimed theories of relativity, Albert Einstein (1879-1955) taught and lectured at universities around the world. Einstein received numerous awards and honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine, and philosophy, and he remains a towering symbol of intellectual and imaginative achievement.

It's All Relative
Around 1950, Hayward Cirker, Founder and President of Dover Publications, wrote to Einstein and asked his approval to proceed with a Dover paperback reprint of the 1923 collection of original papers on relativity by Einstein himself and others (H. A. Lorentz, H. Weyl, and H. Minkowski), which had originally been published in England. Einstein was reluctant, wondering how much interest there could possibly be in this relic of his work from 30 or more years earlier. Cirker persisted, and Einstein finally agreed — the Dover edition of The Theory of Relativity has been in print ever since and has been followed by many other Dover books on relativity.

Einstein Signs

I chose to purchase this book because I kept getting signs leading to Einstein through other books and even on the tv. So I thought that I had better investigate Albert Einstein. I believe that what Einstein did and felt was true to his soul and beyond our mere planet earth. That is not to say whether he was correct or incorrect 100% of the time, but who was or is? I think if you are a soul searching spiritualist that Einstein's words and stories should at least be taken a look at for the sake of wonderment. I am adding other Einstein related books to my shelf. I think he had a lot to share and we are fortunate that it is available to do so. Yes, I would read this again.

Don't Waste Your Money

One gets the sense that the editor wanted to make some money by focusing on Einstein's thoughts about cosmic religion, but then, even on that limited topic, misleads the reader by substantially shortening what he said. If you want a fuller understanding of what Einstein thought of a variety of topics, and specifically a more complete and accurate version of what he said about cosmic religion, read "Ideas and Opinions." This "book" took less than 10 minutes to read and took away rather than added to what had already been given to us on that subject.

A MARVELOUS TITLE ESSAY, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHERS

This 1931 publication contains a biographical essay by the publishers; an "appreciation" by George Bernard Shaw; Einstein's fairly brief "Cosmic Religion" essay; and then other brief essays on "Militant Pacifism," "Disarmament," "The Jewish Homeland," "On Radio," "On Science," etc.

In the title essay, he wrote, "there is found a third level of religious experience... I will call it the cosmic religious sense. This... does not involve an anthropomorphic idea of God; the individual feels the vanity of human desires and aims, and the nobility and marvelous order which are revealed in nature and in the world of thought. He feels the individual destiny as an imprisonment and seeks to experience the totality of existence as a unity full of significance." (Pg. 48)

He adds, "The religious genuises of all times have been distinguished by this cosmic religious sense, which recognizes neither dogmas nor God made in man's image. Consequently there cannot be a church whose chief doctrines are based on the cosmic religious experience... How can this cosmic religious experience be communicated from man to man, if it cannot lead to a definite conception of God or to a theology? It seems to me that the most important function of art and of science is to arouse and keep alive this feeling in those who are receptive." (Pg. 49-50)

He adds, "I assert that the cosmic religious experience is the strongest and the noblest driving force behind scientific research. No one who does not appreciate ... the devotion without which pioneer creations in scientific thought cannot come into being, can judge the strength of the feeling out of which alone such work, turned away as it is from immediate practical life, can grow." (Pg. 52)

Einstein's views on religion are much misunderstood, but are (to me, at least) extremely profound and moving.
