I was living the life in New York City, working at a certain high-pressure fashion magazine when, after learning that a third coworker had suffered a miscarriage in almost as many months, I decided it was time to rethink my priorities. My husband and I had been married for 18 months, and he couldn’t wait to have children. So I gave my notice, enrolled in some cooking classes and a few months later got the joyous news I’d been hoping for via a plastic stick. My new job immediately became trying to become the best mother possible. That was some 12 years ago, and this book explains how I—with the help of many others—was able to raise two happy, healthy, smart, disciplined and interesting children, as well as keep my sanity and marriage intact. Good Book for Great Kids

This book's tone feels like that of an older sister who had kids a few years before you did and no longer sweats the small stuff, concentrating instead on raising children she loves AND likes. It is easy to forget the basics of what makes a happy kid in the hysteria and panic of being a new parent, but this book reminds readers that the whole purpose of creating a family is to enjoy each other's company and personalities as much as possible every single day. The Modern Mother's Handbook is full of common-sense solutions to life's little issues, and is a book I could read in one sitting but then refer to often. I highly recommend it to any parent or grandparent or caregiver.
