About the Author
David Taylor (Boulder, Colorado) is the founder of Intuitive Systems, where he provides consulting, teaching, and writing services on technologies, including UNIX and Solaris, and the principal of Growing Ventures, a consulting business for start-up companies. Mr. Taylor has been involved with UNIX since 1980 and created the Elm Mail System, one of the most popular UNIX email systems found on all Linux and Solaris distributions. His former positions include Research Scientist at HP's Palo Alto Research Labs and Senior Reviews Editor at SunWorld Magazine. At SunWorld, Mr. Taylor was intimately involved with Solaris and Sun hardware. In addition, he has authored many books, some of which are on UNIX.�

The book is well-named

"Solaris for Dummies" is well-named - only a dummy would pay for the useless book. It doesn't even address installation or setup, and is likewise silent on critical matters like printing. Upon contact, the author admitted only casual and dated exposure to Solaris, and offered zero help in activating my printer. His casual style assumes 'way too much user knowledge as a prerequisite.
The neophyte will emerge still a neophyte when he wades thru this book. We need something that starts at Square One (Installation)and proceeds slowly thru setup and usage (like as in printing).Solaris 9 for Dummies

Not really much help if you ARE a dummy...

The Dummy books are always entertaining, but for a Solaris novice it doesn't give much relational reference to other systems which you may be more familiar with. I always look for these books to give comparisons to more popular systems such as DOS or Windows since they are the most popular and well known by none professionals. It would make conceptual understanding a bit easier. This one presupposes a higher level of UNIX knowledge than I had, so it didn't help much.

This guy claimed to ship via media mail. I am not sure anything takes this long to get sent by mail.Unless they are using Pony Express. This guy is a scammer and a rip off artist. Dont trust a deadbeat seller like him
